What Personal Information Is Collected?
- We collect only what personal information is necessary to create member accounts. Any other information you voluntarily choose to provide on your member profile such as your name, email address, and/or other categories of personal information is under your full control.
- Our web server logs may collect additional information, such as the domain names and/or IP Addresses of visitors to our web sites, in order to measure the use of our web sites and to improve content.
- We may use cookies to manage areas of our web site and to deliver a better web site experience to our users. You have choices with respect to cookies.
How Is My Personal Information Used?
- Except as outlined in this statement or on our web sites, we do not provide your personal information to third parties without your consent.
- We share the information you provide with Meryton Literary Society sites.
- In addition, we may disclose personal information in special cases, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.
What Choices Do I Have?

Statement of MLS's Online Privacy Practices: Full Text
MLS recognizes privacy and security as being concerns for most individuals accessing the Internet, including our members. This statement describes how MLS collects, uses and safeguards information you provide when using our web sites; in accordance with the relevant legislation for the countries in which such data is being processed. By using our web sites, you consent to the collection and use of your information by MLS as set forth in the policy currently in effect. Any changes to this statement will be posted on our web sites, so please check back periodically to ensure you have the most current statement.
What personal information is collected?
When a visitor registers on one of our websites, MLS may collect personal information about you, including name, address, and email address. In addition to registration, we may ask you for and collect personal information at other times, including when you donate; when you complete surveys or other questionnaires; when you send an email to MLS; or when you engage in other activities on the sites. In addition, our web server logs collect the domain names of visitors to our web sites. This information may be aggregated to measure number of visits, average time spent on a MLS web site, pages viewed and web site usage information. We use this information to measure the use of our sites and to improve the content of our sites. Aggregated information is not used in such a form that would enable direct connection of any personal information to our visitors.
Who is collecting the information?
When you are on a MLS site and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with MLS, Inc.
The MLS web site may also contain various links to third-party web sites. These sites may provide additional information, goods, services and/or promotions. These sites are owned and operated independently of MLS, and have their own separate privacy and data collection practices. Any information you provide to these web sites will be governed under the terms of their privacy policy, if any. MLS has no responsibility or liability whatsoever for the independent actions or policies of these independent sites, and is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such sites.
What about Cookies?
When you enter our site, our server may attach a small text file to your hard drive ? a cookie. Your unique cookie tells us that it is you whenever you re-enter our site and helps us deliver a better web site experience to our users.
You have choices with respect to cookies. By modifying your Internet browser preferences, you have the ability to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. Please note that, if you choose to reject all cookies you will be unable to use those services or engage in activities that require the placement of cookies.
How is my personal information used?
MLS's primary goal in collecting personal information is to enable us to contact you if a problem arises. This information may also be used to provide you with a customized experience on our site, which includes interactive communications, subscriptions, and other services. The MLS site may also contain optional surveys and questionnaires asking for information, as well as several opportunities for visitors to ask questions. Taking part in any of these segments is always optional and voluntary.
MLS may conduct research on our users' demographics, interests, and behavior based on the information provided to us registering, during a promotion, from surveys and from our server log files. We do this to better understand and serve our users. This research is compiled and analyzed on an aggregated basis so as to prevent identification of personal information relating to any one individual.
With whom does MLS share my personal information?
Except as outlined in this policy or on our web sites, MLS does not provide your personal information to third parties without your consent. Please note that, in special cases, we may need to share information without acquiring consent, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating our sites' Terms of Use or may be violating MLS's or other's rights or causing injury to or interference with MLS's or other's property.
What choices do I have regarding collection, use and distribution of my personal information?
MLS or its business partners may, from time to time, send you email. If you do not want to receive such information follow the directions contained on the mailing to remove your name from our mailing list(s).
On certain types of MLS promotions, we will ask for your email address in order to contact you in the event you have won a prize. When you participate in these types of promotions, you may receive promotion-related email if you do not wish to receive such advertisements, you can choose not to participate in such promotions or contests.
Please note that by refusing to provide personal information or by denying or withdrawing consent to use personal information for purposes identified, you may be unable to participate in certain programs or activities sponsored by MLS.
You also have the right to access (review, correct, amend or delete) your personal information by reviewing/updating/changing the data on your profile within AHA. Individuals are responsible for providing MLS with accurate and complete personal information, and for contacting MLS if correction of such information is required. Please note that, where permitted, we may charge a nominal fee for fulfilling access requests and that we reserve the right to disallow unreasonable requests for access.
If you have established a "user profile" on a MLS web
site, you may change the information you provided by visiting that
portion of the web site and resubmitting your information.

What about information security?

However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
As a result, while we have taken appropriate steps to protect your personal information, MLS cannot ensure or otherwise warrant the security of any information you provide to us or from our Web site, and therefore you use our site at your own risk.
As a global entity MLS has users all over the world. The personal information you provide may be transmitted, used, stored and otherwise processed outside of the country where you submitted that information, including jurisdictions that may not have data privacy laws that provide equivalent protection to such laws in your home country. Whenever MLS handles personal information, regardless of where this occurs, we take appropriate steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and this Privacy Statement and all applicable laws and regulations.
What about my child's privacy?
Web sites operated by or on behalf of MLS, Inc. are intended for use by adults. MLS does not seek to collect information about minors. No information should be submitted to or posted on MLS's web sites by minors. If a minor submits personal information to MLS?s web sites, we delete the information as soon as we discover it was provided by a minor and do not use it for any purpose. MLS encourages parents to take an active role in their children's use of the Internet, and to inform them of the potential dangers of providing information about themselves over the Internet. Some MLS websites are limited to adults. Children under 18 are not allowed access. On these websites if a child under the age of 18 registers, we delete the account as soon as we discover that the user is underage.
